Amid a recent sharp rise in antisemitism across America, American Jewish University (AJU) will convene a conversation with Jonathan Greenblatt, National Director and CEO of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and AJU President Dr. Jeffrey Herbst. The discussion will explore the state and evolution of hatred and antisemitism and the ADL’s role in combating prejudice.   

In recent weeks, violent antisemitic attacks have been documented across the country. In Los Angeles, a group of Jewish people dining outdoors were attacked by people in a caravan of cars shouting antisemitic slurs including “Death to Jews.” Videos show the group quickly turning violent, kicking and punching the group of Jewish people. A slew of hate crimes against Jewish people have also occurred in New York. One attack involved a 29-year-old Jewish man wearing a kippah, who was assaulted by a gang of five to six men yelling antisemitic profanities while beating him and spraying him with pepper spray.  

Just last week, the ADL released preliminary data from their Center on Extremism, “revealing an increase in online and real-world incidents of antisemitism in the United States.”   

ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt commented, “…we are witnessing a dangerous and drastic surge in anti-Jewish hate right here at home. We are tracking acts of harassment, vandalism and violence as well as a torrent of online abuse.”
